Alexandra Machado, Sundog Sheep Company LLC
Sundog Sheep Company is owned and operated by Alexandra Machado, who founded her first livestock business, Snake Mountain Ranch, in Bellingham, Washington circa 2018. Raised in Metro Detroit, Alex relocated to Washington in 2016 to study regenerative agriculture and holistic management through internships, workshops, and mentorship.
In 2022, she moved to Eastern Washington. Alex co-facilitates New Cowgirl Camp, a multi-day training for women ranchers with Sandy Matheson of Matheson Farms and Beth Robinette of the Lazy R Ranch in Cheney. That same year, she launched Sundog Sheep Co., focusing on heritage Navajo-Churro sheep, targeted grazing as a service, and cooperative models of agrarianism.
Alex also works with Washington Farmland Trust as the Farmer Collectives Manager, helping build land access opportunities and collaborative pathways for farmers across the state. She serves on the Board of Hunters of Color, where she supports BIPOC hunters in developing skills and community through inclusivity and equity in the outdoors.
A multiracial Cuban-Nicaraguan, Indigenous woman, Alex is deeply committed to food sovereignty, land access, equity. Her mission is to honor the land and its living systems through responsible stewardship and shepherding; to preserve the cultural legacy of Navajo Churro sheep; and to build resilient, inclusive communities through conservation and agriculture.
